Registration Open for 2018 AALA Annual Educational Symposium

Please Join Us in Portland, Oregon
October 25 – 27, 2018

Our program reflects our Pacific Northwest location but also focuses on major federal and state issues.  Attendees may earn 3 CLE credits for Thursday and 12 -14 credits of CLE (including 2 hours ethics) for FridaySaturdayThe agenda is posted on our website.

We are once again offering a Thursday afternoon “off-site” CLE for those who wish to attend; our venue this year is the Rexhill Winery, in nearby Newberg, Oregon. We will begin our regular programming Friday morning, October 26, and we are thrilled to have two confirmed featured speakers, Alexis Taylor, Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and Helena Bottemiller Evich, senior food and agriculture reporter for POLITICO Pro for our morning session. Friday morning’s program also features a plenary panel discussion regarding U.S. Trade Agreements and Trade Policy with U.S. trade and commodity association leaders. USDA’s Principal Deputy General Counsel Stephen Vaden is invited (but not yet confirmed) to speak last on the program Friday afternoon.

Our popular “Ag Law Updates” will include 3 updates on Friday and 3 updates on Saturday morning. Our update speakers will cover new developments in Agri-finance and Bankruptcy, Agricultural Taxation, Environment and Natural Resources, Water and Land Use, Food, and Federal Policy Issues, including the Farm Bill.

Concurrent panel sessions (24) on Friday and Saturday are organized by five themes: In-House/Corporate Counsel; Private Practitioners; Food Law; Policy; and Ethics.

Saturday’s programming concludes with a plenary panel discussion regarding Sustainability in Agriculture and the attorney’s role, as well as an interesting Legal Ethics session concerning cannabis production and the legalization of medical and/or recreational marijuana in an increasing number of states, and the legal ethics implications for attorneys.

By popular demand, Friday’s schedule includes “lunch on your own” to give our attendees time to explore Portland without sacrificing time to earn continuing legal education credits.

We want to thank our generous sponsors, which provide invaluable support to the AALA as we offer our 39thAnnual Educational Symposium.

We look forward to seeing you in Portland!
