One of the major challenges facing North Carolina farmers—and perhaps farmers across the nation—is the general public’s lack of knowledge about production agriculture. The good news is AALA has an opportunity to help educate our colleagues and prepare them to better represent farm families and agribusinesses.
AALA recognizes the excellence and professionalism of its members through a series of awards that are presented annually at our Symposium.
The AALA will host its 37th Annual Agricultural Law Symposium on October 6-8, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel.
Oklahoma City is where Western roots meet urban charm. You can enjoy shopping in Stockyard City, the entertainment of Bricktown, riversport adventures of the Boathouse District, reflection at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum or saddle up at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. There is fun for the whole family with the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Myriad Botanical Gardens and Science Museum Oklahoma.
Each year our sponsors help further the mission and effectiveness of AALA and its Symposium. Sponsorships at various levels may be targeted to help in a number of ways.
The AALA Member List-Serv in its new home on Yahoo Groups has had interesting posts recently shared. Legal news links have covered topics from recent SCOTUS arguments regarding the Army Corp of Engineers “jurisdictional determination” to the question of what is covered as agriculture under Right to Farm laws. The List-Serv continues to provide networking and serve as a place to post or find information on those seeking attorneys with a practice area, new job postings and upcoming seminars, webinars and educational events.
Maureen Kelly Moseman was honored with The AALA Distinguished Service Award, which is given annually to an AALA member for contributions to the organization and to agricultural law. The award recipient, chosen by the three most recent award winners, is selected based upon consistent demonstration of dedication to furthering the development of agricultural law, strengthening the legal profession, increasing the size and influence of AALA, and fulfilling the law-related information needs of lawyers and citizens alike.
